Driving on one hour, through a landscape of absolute archaeological interest, you will find yourself in one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, the place that gave birth to the Olympic Games, Ancient Olympia.<\/p>\n

You will admire impressive ancient buildings, which the ancient Greeks used as places of worship & sports, important ancient exhibits and monuments, with the most important being that of Hermes Praxiteles, the ancient Stadium, the temples of Zeus and Hera (where the Olympic Flame is touched), the Palestra and the workshop of Pheidias.<\/p>\n

Within minutes walk from the archaeological site, lies the Archaeological Museum. Olympia’s\u00a0Archaeological\u00a0Museum, which houses a famous collection of sculptures and clay objects, is one of the most important\u00a0museums\u00a0of Greece.<\/p>\n

Another point where the present meets the past is Ancient Elis with the Ancient Theater, the Agora, the Sanctuaries and the Gymnasiums. Ancient Elis, capital of the state of \u00a0Ilia, was a permanent host city of the ancient Olympic games for more than a thousand years.<\/p>\n

The discoveries testify to the prosperity that the city experienced, proving that it was important and organized. Today the visitors will see what remains of the ancient market, the theater, the settlement, the citadel, the cemeteries.<\/p>\n

The main and best-preserved monument is the ancient theater, at the northern end of the market, with a characteristic earthen hollow and well-preserved scenic building.<\/p>\n

Holy Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna (Monastery of Genesis of the Virgin Mary)<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Don\u2019t miss to light a candle at the Holy Monastery of Vlacherna (Monastery of the Birth of the Virgin) which has become famous throughout the Christian world, because of the miraculous icon of Panagia Vlacherna.<\/p>\n

A little outside of Kyllini, 3 km south of the port, in the village of Kato Panagia, look for the female Byzantine monastery of Vlacherna, which was built somewhere between the 10th and 11th century, and has many additions from Frankish and later times.<\/p>\n

It has got it\u2019s name from the monastery of Vlacherna in Constantinople. The monastery celebrates on September 8.<\/p>\n

From the port of Kyllini, it is worth taking a boat to approach the island of Kafkalida with the characteristic 15-meter high stone-built lighthouse.<\/p>\n

Apart from the beautiful lighthouse that faces the imposing Mount Ainos of Kefalonia, you will see Roman tombs, but also the ruins of an early Christian church. The rock island is located opposite of the port Kyllini.<\/p>\n

According to tradition, the island was connected to the mainland by a strip of land. However, over time this \u201cpath\u201d eroded.<\/p>\n

Today, there are shallow waters and rocks, which create a path for visitors.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Visit one of the most beautiful medieval castles of the Peloponnese, the famous Chlemoutsi Castle, which has been standing since the time of the Frankish occupation and is the most important example of Frankish architecture of the middle ages that we have in Greece.<\/p>\n

The castle was built by the Franks and was called Clermont (in Greek \u201cChlemoutsi\u201d). Just 3 kilometers from Kyllini, is located the village Kastro Kyllinis, a semi-mountainous village, among olive groves and a spectacular view of the Ionian Sea, Zakynthos and Kefalonia islands.On the top of the village hill (Helonata hill) is built the Chlemoutsi Castle,at an altitude of 250 meters.<\/p>\n

Chlemoutsi Castle has been declared a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Monument. In the summer it hosts shows and concerts.<\/p>\n

It is worth seeing it lit up at night, as it offers a fairytale atmosphere. A museum is housed inside the Castle grounds.<\/p>\n

It is worth taking a walk among the ruins of the Roman baths. At a distance of 11 kilometers from Kyllini, in the place \u201cLitzi\u201d, are the famous Roman Baths of Kyllini.<\/p>\n

They are famous for their thermal springs, which were considered therapeutic since the time of the Romans. Here the visitor can also do mud therapy & inhalation therapy.<\/p>\n

Their healing waters, fumes and mud cure arthritis, asthma and skin diseases.<\/p>\n

Blue-green waters, pristine sand & sand dunes with white lilies make up the scene for the most beautiful beach of the Peloponnese, the Golden Beach.<\/p>\n

The gold sandy beach of Loutra Kyllinis, also known as the Golden Beach, is a stunning exotic beach, 6 km long, with shallow waters that make it ideal for families with small children. It is also the favorite of wind and kite surfers.<\/p>\n

The sunset seen from the beach sends afternoon dips straight into the top-10 summer memories.<\/p>\n

It is a few kilometers away from the village Kastro Kyllinis.<\/p>\n

In a distance of 2 km from Kyllini Baths, you will approach the cosmopolitan Arkoudi.<\/p>\n

Here the scenery will remind you of an island, and not without reason. It is a picturesque village, which nestles in a small bay, with colorful houses on the seashore, cocktail bars, tavernas by the sea and a wonderful beach.<\/p>\n

When the sun dips into the sea, it\u2019s definitely worth a stop to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets you\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n

On your way here you\u2019ll definitely take a dip at Glyfa beach, about 4 kilometers down the road \u2013 it\u2019s usually as calm as oil.<\/p>\n

It is one of the highlights of the area.<\/p>\n

Neda is a river of the western Peloponnese and the only one with a feminine name. It is a natural border between the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia. You will need to cross a moderately difficult path until you reach where the water creates two natural pools. One smaller and one larger.<\/p>\n

On the way to experience the waterfalls of Neda you will also enjoy some small picturesque villages. Neda also crosses a beautiful 32km long canyon.<\/p>\n

Kaiafas, otherwise known as the ancient spa town of Ilia, is one of the most important attractions of the area.<\/p>\n

The coastal zone of Kaiafas includes an endless unspoiled beach, the pine forest of \u00a0Kaiafas (or Strofilia), two primordial healing springs and a lake with healing waters that joins the sea through a small green channel.<\/p>\n

The healing properties of the Kaiafas baths have been known since ancient times.<\/p>\n

Lake Kaiafas is a place of great environmental importance, included \u2013 like the whole area \u2013 in the NATURA 2000 network for years, while it is also protected by the Ramsar Convention, Corine \u2013 European Union habitats. The lake is the second most important wetland in the area.<\/p>\n

Finally, Kaiafas not only attracts visitors who want to use the natural \u201chammam\u201d of the baths, but also lovers of water sports and activities, such as water skiing.<\/p>\n
